Berta Schmidt is the sister of Jan Josef. She lived near Rittersberg. She was convinced the illnesses in her brothers pension house was caused by the supernatural. She’d begged for Gabriel’s help, asking him to ‘just take a short holiday there and see what you can find out.’

An Herr Schmidt appears in the short story novella. Frau Schmidt is a character that appears in the comic, while another individual named Berta appears in the novella (as both are intended to be the sister of the guesthaus owner) her full name is likely to be Berta Schmidt.
In the novel version her last name is not given, however as she is supposed to be the sister of Heir Schmidt, that maybe her last name as well (assuming she isn't married)... A similar character appears in the comic as Frau Schmidt.
