In many religious and folk traditions, demons are evil genies, spirit, or monsters whose purpose and joy is to create pain and misery for the human race. In the Christian tradition, the demons were originally angels, headed by Lucifer, who rebelled against God and was cast out of heaven. Demons reside in Hell, a terrible place of everlasting torment, that is the destination of the sinful human souls after death. In the Chinese culture, demons are usually either the "hungry" or "tormented" spirits of the evil dead or are the spirits of places considered to be dangers, evil, or profane.
