Garr von Zell was a member of The Royal Bavarian Hunting Lodge in The Beast Within: A Gabriel Knight Mystery.
Background[]
Due to his perfectionist attitude and his competitive nature he quickly becomeVon Glower's favourite member taking trips with Von Glower all over Europe, America, and Africa. Von Zell fit in well and became good friends with the other members until Von Glower transformed him into a beta werewolf a year prior to the "Beast Within" case. Unable to properly control his desires, Von Zell carried out many murders around Munich and Rittersberg, including that of Grossberg andSepp Hubers daughter. These murders occurred around the Bavarian National Forest where he and the rest of the club took hunting trips to.
Von Zell is immediately hostile to Gabriel especially after finding him sneaking around the club's secret basement whereinGabriel finds Von Zell's diary containing the amount of money each member paid for the use of exotic and illegal animals. Shortly thereafter, Von Zell storms out of the club when Von Glower invites Gabriel to accompany the club on the hunting trip in the Alps. By this point, Von Zell had been in a business with the furrier Grossberg (by getting Von Aigner to give Von Zell access to Grossberg in exchange for settling Von Aigner's debts) and the animal trader Dorn. Von Zell also introduced Docktor Klingmann into the club to gain access to the zoo' s Grey Wolves.
Gabriel discovers via a recording of Von Zell and through Dorn himself that Von Zell kidnapped the Grey Wolves from Docktor Kilngmann's zoo in order for focus police attention on them for Von Zell's crimes. Realising that the police would discover that the wolves were not the perpetrators due to their small size and grey colour, Von Zell used his connection to Dorn to export the wolves to Taiwan to further hamper the police investigation. However, when Grossberg became greedy and tried to extort over 500,000DM from Von Zell in order to cover his debts with Dorn, Von Zell murdered Grossberg in Munich while in werewolf form. Gabriel finds a note at the lodge near the forest to confirm this.
Von Zell's lair near the alps is found by Gabriel while on the hunting trip and Gabriel spots him within eating human flesh while surrounded by human bones. Reporting this to Von Glower, Gabriel and Von Glower hunt him down and since Von Glower, as Von Zell's alpha, is unable to kill Von Zell, Von Glower forces Gabriel to shoot him with a hunting rifle into the lungs, killing Von Zell. However, Gabriel is bitten by Von Zell thus dooming him to life as a werewolf.
